Research Topics:
1) molecular detection and examination of antibiotic resistance and virulence factors of the main anaerobic pathogens; 2) investigation of the mechanisms of carbapenem and metronidazole resistance of Bacteroides species; 3) examination of the imipenem (cfiA) and metronidazole (nimA-G) gene activation mechanisms by insertion sequence insertions in Bacteroides species; 4) detection of the enteroxin genes of B. fragilis (bft1-3) and Clostridium difficile (tcdA-B, cdtA-B); 5) molecular epidemiologic (PFGE, AP-PCR, RAPD-PCR, ribotyping) investigation of the Bacteroides and C. difficile populations (clinical : outpatients, inpatients isolates, normal flora isolates); 6) molecular analysis of the genetic structure and functions of small and large Bacteroides plasmids; 7) detection and characterization of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases of Enterobacteriaceae species, especially the newly emerged inhibitor resistant enzymes; 8) molecular investigation and typing of important human-pathogenic filamentous fungi and yeasts; 9) use and development of molecular techniques for detection of pathogens in fungal infections especially targeted to internal-transcibed spacer regions in different species; 10) detection of mycoplasmas by PCR in clinical samples.

1) immunological detection of Bacteroides suface and outer-membrane proteins;
2) isolation of Bacteroides species from faeces by immunological methods;
